Meet Dr. Wendy: How Technology and Tradition Come Together in Veterinary Medicine
By Dr. Wendy, WholeHeart Pet Virtual Vet
“Every pet deserves care that’s as heartfelt as the love they give us.”
In today’s digital world, technology has transformed the way we live — and the way we care for our pets. Veterinary telemedicine has opened new doors for pet owners everywhere, making it easier than ever to access compassionate, professional advice whenever it’s needed most.
For nearly three years, I’ve had the privilege of working as part of the WholeHeart Pet veterinary team, helping pet parents across the globe — sometimes from entirely different time zones — get the care and reassurance their furry companions deserve. It’s deeply rewarding to see how this modern connection can bridge distances while keeping the heart of veterinary care personal and genuine.
From Buddy the Hamster to a Lifelong Calling
My journey into veterinary medicine began with a tiny friend named Buddy — my very first pet hamster. That early bond taught me how strong the connection between humans and animals can be. It also sparked my lifelong dream to care for them.
Pursuing that dream wasn’t always easy. I moved to a colder, more remote province to earn my veterinary degree, where I learned the true meaning of dedication, resilience, and compassion. Every challenge I faced reaffirmed why I chose this path — to make a difference in the lives of pets and their people.
Blending Modern Care With Traditional Wisdom
Over the years, I’ve developed a special interest in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), integrating acupuncture and food therapy into my diagnostic and treatment plans. I believe in treating every pet as an individual, focusing on preventive, holistic care that supports their long-term health and happiness.
A Whole-Hearted Approach to Pet Parenthood
Having pets is one of life’s greatest joys — but it’s also a big responsibility. I often remind pet parents that the love and comfort animals give us come with emotional and financial commitments. Doing your research, preparing your home, and understanding your pet’s needs are all part of ensuring they live the joyful, healthy lives they deserve.
At home, my significant other and I share our lives with two playful cats and one lovable dog. They remind us every day why this work matters — because the bond between people and animals is one of the most rewarding relationships we can experience.
Looking Ahead
Through my work with WholeHeart Pet, I hope to continue fostering stronger human–animal connections, offering guidance, education, and care that supports the wellbeing of every companion animal. After all, caring with a whole heart means combining knowledge, empathy, and connection — whether it’s through a screen or right by your pet’s side.
